With the advancements in technology and changes in the health care industry, is there still a need for a Unique Patient Identifier? This webinar will review the current barriers and potential value propositions of a Unique Patient Identifier under the existing health care reform regulations.

Prior to this, Michael served as the Executive Director for the MN Health Information Exchange (MN HIE), a coalition of healthcare organizations and state government with a commitment to sharing clinical and administrative information in a cost effective manner. Michael also spent 36 years at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. During his tenure, he served in a variety of technical and management level positions. Management level accountabilities included running the corporate program office for HIPAA (privacy, security, transactions and National Provider Identifier).

Yulan Egan is a senior analyst with the Advisory Board Company. In this capacity, she develops strategic guidance and best practice research for organizations transitioning to value-based delivery models and transforming care. Yulanís past areas of focus have included primary care network development, deploying care management resources for the Medicaid population, and hospital partnership and affiliation strategy. Currently, she works as part of the Advisory Boardís Care Transformation Center, which leads the firmís research on population health, care management, and patient engagement. Yulan graduated from Stanford University with a bachelorís degree in human biology and a masterís degree in psychology.

User Experience Strategist
Mary is a User Experience (UX) professional with almost 15 years in the field. She has spoken at multiple usability conferences, such as Usability Professionals Association (UPA) and WritersUA. Mary has also developed and launched usability programs, managed UX teams, held an officer position for the UPA New Jersey Chapter, and is considered a thought leader in UX. Working in a variety of industries, financial services, search, advertising, healthcare communications and research have provided Mary with opportunities to broaden her knowledge and apply UX principles to many different products and services. Over the years, Mary has had her share of navigating her own patient journeys and with her empathetic nature, has developed deep connections to the patient community. Working with others who follow the same moral compass, Mary is focusing on applying her skill set with what she's learned through her own patient experiences and in combination with current HealthIT initiatives, has goals to improve the patient experience, including the access of health records, reducing the possibility of medical errors, and improving efficiency which will potentially save lives. Mary is an active member of the WEDI Patient and Family Caregiver Task Force assembled to review the 2013 Report.

Kym Martin is a 30-year, 3x cancer survivor who is passionate about educating and empowering others to take preventative and proactive steps to achieve their optimal state of health. Kym has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Melanoma and Breast cancer. Through her cancer journey, Kym has found her voice as an engaged patient and follows her personal desires to integrate conventional medicine with complementary therapy. She has become the bridge by which her doctors and wholistic health providers come together and work on her behalf. Kym believes that providers, patients and family caregivers must work as trusted partners and respected contributors to improve the quality of each patientís care and outcome. Kym leads the WEDI Patient and Family Caregiver Task Force assembled to review the 2013 Report and provided patient perspective for the pre-conference symposium panel discussion on innovative encounters and innovative payment models at the WEDI Fall Conference. Kym contributed during a panel discussion on Blue Button+ and patient's access to their personal health data at Health DataPalooza IV and also shares an insightful video interview with her husband at the HDP IV event. Gail Foster Embt - Chief Executive Officer, Kinergy Health
A serial entrepreneur, Gail Foster Embt has delivered a variety of ground-breaking services over her career. During her tenure at America Online, she led their entry into personal webpage publishing with AOL Hometown, and drove the initial distribution of AOL Instant Messenger. Gail's experience with healthcare began as the sole caregiver to an aging parent dealing with multiple doctors, facilities, hospitals, and chronic degenerative diseases. Several years dealing with doctors, nurses, home care and long term care facilities enabled her to build the vision for cost effective care delivery that drives Kinergy Health today. Gail speaks on the issues of family caregivers and is an active advocate for patient engagement and patient-centered care. She is an active member of the WEDI Patient and Family Caregiver Task Force assembled to review the 2013 Report, as well as the Society for Participatory Medicine, the Health Information Management Systems Society, and the American Telehealth Association.
