The 18th Annual WEDI National Conference will be held on April 20-23, 2009, at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. You won't want to miss this program, designed specifically with your feedback in mind, which will include presentations from industry leaders and highly interactive workshops led by industry experts.
2009 promises to be a year of dynamic change and transition for our country and the healthcare industry. A new administration under the leadership of President Barack Obama will be advocating and implementing policies and regulations which will impact your business. In response to one of the most challenging economic downturns in our history, stimulus proposals and strategies are being considered which may significantly effect the progress and outcomes of the many IT initiatives currently underway. In addition, two long-awaited final rules addressing Transaction Modifications (the 5010, D.0, etc.) and ICD-10 have been released. The 2009 WEDI National Conference has been designed to provide you with an understanding of these proposals and rules changes, and to assist you in your business planning and decision-making for this very critical fiscal year.
The conference agenda has been developed with your business needs in mind. The conference will address those issues of utmost importance to you and your organization. Attendees will leave the program with a better understanding of the issues facing the healthcare industry right now, strategies to approach these new challenges, an understanding of how these issues affect your business partners, and how the industry can work together as whole to create a more efficient implementation of the changes facing the healthcare industry today.
Your attendance and participation in this program is essential to your being informed and prepared for the anticipated changes that lie ahead!
The 18th Annual WEDI National Conference will begin with a full day pre-conference session addressing the Transactions and Code Sets Modifications as well as ICD-10, with special emphasis on 5010 implementation,
Building the Foundation for Successful HIPAA Implementation"
(Separate Registration Required). Feeling overwhelmed with the 5010 transactions? Don’t know where to start with HIPAA II? Or just want to validate your 5010 or ICD-10 project plan components? Come to WEDI’s Pre-conference April 20th to hear from industry experts and discuss 5010 implementation strategies. Topics include:
- NCHICA/WEDI 5010 & D.0 Timeline.
- NCHICA/WEDI ICD-10 Timeline.
- Potential Business Opportunities that can occur today to facilitate 5010 implementation
- Early Adopters: Hear what CMS plans for their 5010 implementation as an early adopter, including some of the issues they’ve encountered. You’ll also hear from a provider on their 5010 project plan and implementation strategies.
- WEDI’s Testing Sub-Workgroup has reviewed the 5010 transactions and have identified potential business issues that implementers need to be aware of.
Information discussed during this pre-conference session will be used as the foundation for the Tuesday 5010 Workshop session, where we’ll interactively discuss the issues in more detail.
On Tuesday the main conference begins, including several timely keynote addresses from leaders in our industry. Keynote sessions will include:
- Tony Trenkle, Director, Office of E-Health Standards and Services, CMS, providing an in-depth overview of OESS priorities for 2009
- Cara Campbell, Senior Policy Analyst, Health Division, National Governors Association, addressing how States are Driving HIT
- Wayne Oliver, Project Director, Center for Health Transformation, providing a visionary perspective on 21st Century Healthcare
- Daniel Rosenthal, Senior Advisor, Health Information Technology, National Quality Forum
Our afternoon breakout sessions will reflect a new format. This year’s conference will include a strong emphasis on in-depth workshops, with ample opportunities for audience participation, input, and collaboration.
Tuesday’s afternoon programs will include three tracks:
- 5010 Implementation Continuing from our discussions from Monday’s HIPAA Transactions and Code Sets pre-conference event, the audience, led by a panel of cross-industry experts, will have a full afternoon session addressing 5010 implementation. This program will continue where the pre-conference left off, addressing implementation issues in more detail. This intensive three hour workshop will provide an atmosphere of group collaboration and sharing, and audience members will leave with a better understanding of challenges, lessons learned to date, and similarities that the industry will face during implementation.
- Claims A concurrent track dealing with claims will be offered to those interested in other Transactions issues, or those who have multiple staff from their organization attending and want to benefit from all the conference has to offer. This track will begin with a session on the Impact of Consumer Directed Healthcare on Providers, and will conclude with a session on Real Time Adjudication.
- Transactions Of additional interest to our attendees will be the third concurrent track addressing standards. Learn about the Acknowledgement Reference Model in our first session, and an expert panel addressing Payment Decisions: Issues in the Implementation and Use of 835 Electronic Remittance Advice.
Wednesday afternoon will provide a second day of premier educational content on the issues facing your company today.
- After learning about the recommended ICD-10 implementation timeline from Monday’s pre-conference event, attendees are invited to join the ICD-10 HIPAA Workshop on Wednesday afternoon. Led by a team of cross-industry experts to help set the stage for ICD-10 implementation, the audience will engage in a lengthy discussion on the impacts of ICD-10, issues the industry is starting to identify, and a debate on which issues the industry needs to address first. The audience will have the opportunity to break out by industry type to discuss these issues in more detail, and will then reconvene to share their findings to share with the audience as a whole.
- A second track on standards will be provided on Wednesday afternoon, including the Medicaid Information Technology Architecture (MITA) and HIPAA II: Pharmacy Industry Perspective
- Electronic and Personal Health Records will be addressed during some of the morning keynote sessions, and the EHR/PHR Breakout Track will offer the audience the opportunity to go more in depth on these issues. Both sessions will be presented in Town Hall format, with presentations from key industry experts and ample opportunity for audience discussion and sharing. Stimulus package impacts, the CMS pilot medical records project for Medicare beneficiaries, and CCHIT’s certification requirements for PHRs are only a few examples of the issues to be discussed during this breakout track.
Due to the large variety of timely topics to be addressed at the 18th Annual WEDI National Conference, it is strongly recommend that one or more colleagues join you at the conference. WEDI is pleased to offer a discount for additional attendees from your organization.
