New WEDI ICD-10 Survey Measures Industry Progress Based on New 2014 Compliance Date

January 28, 2013

RESTON, VA, January 25, 2013 - The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI), the leading authority on the use of Health IT to improve the exchange of healthcare information, announced the release of a new online survey designed to measure the progress of ICD-10 implementation within the nation’s health care industry and the impact of the compliance date extension to October 1, 2014. The online survey, located at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WEDISurveyICD-10, will be used by WEDI and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to evaluate challenges and identify areas in need of additional education and assistance.

“It is important to closely track industry progress in order to identify areas where additional focus may be needed,” said Jim Daley, WEDI Chairman and WEDI ICD-10 Workgroup Co-Chair. “ICD-10 is a large complex implementation and any issues must be quickly identified and addressed in order to meet the compliance date.”

The survey is open through Wednesday, February 20, 2013 and available to any individual associated with health care organizations (vendors, health plans, healthcare providers, etc.).

WEDI has conducted ICD-10 readiness surveys to measure the progress of industry compliance since 2009, with the most recent survey collecting more than 2,600 responses from across the nation. WEDI will continue to conduct surveys as the industry approaches the October 2014 implementation deadline, monitoring industry progress and helping the industry achieve compliance.

Questions about the survey should be directed to Samantha Holvey at WEDI: sholvey@wedi.org or 202.618.8803.
