In 2014, the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics achieved a number of important milestones, products and deliverables aimed at advancing administrative standards, population health and privacy and security in the US. This session will review these accomplishments and discuss the priority areas of work for 2015, including new functions and areas the National Committee is being asked to address, such as the implementation of the ACA Review Committee, Transparency in Health Care, the next generation of a privacy and security framework for health care (10 years after HIPAA), and the evaluation of health reform. SPEAKER: Walter G. Suarez, MD, MPH Executive Director Health IT Strategy and Policy Dr. Suarez is a physician and a public health and medical information systems specialist, and the Executive Director of Health IT Strategy and Policy for Kaiser Permanente, where he is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the development of Kaiser Permanente’s internal and external Health IT-related policy positions, provide US national and international policy input on health IT-related domains (including standards for electronic health records and health administrative processes, information technology architectures, clinical models, privacy and security, and health information exchanges), and fostering the establishment of, and leading regional and national public-private collaborative efforts in health IT on behalf of Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Suarez joined Kaiser Permanente in 2009. In 2009, Dr. Suarez was appointed by the US Secretary of Health and Human services to the prestigious National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS), where he co-chairs the Sub-Committee on Standards and is a member of the Population Health and the Privacy and Security Sub-Committees.
