End-to-End Testing In preparation for ICD-10 implementation in 2014, stakeholders on all sides of the coding scenario need to be fully prepared. Companies must conduct end-to-end testing, and it is imperative that the testing is thorough. Your end-to-end testing will replicate your organization’s systems to assess operational readiness and will flag potential hiccups or unexpected outcomes prior to implementation. An end-to-end testing scenario that is lacking could leave you unprepared. National Government Services was awarded a contract by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to establish industry definitions and develop a process methodology for End-to-End Testing of the Administration Simplification Requirements based on industry input and feedback. The process developed will be piloted using ICD-10 as the test case. HIMSS and WEDI have established the ICD-10 National Pilot Program, an industry-wide healthcare collaborative established to minimize the guess work related to ICD-10 testing and implementation as well as to assist providers through shared best practices from early adopter organizations. The pilot program, which identifies 100-200 standard vetted test scenarios, will be published in the ICD-10 PlayBook ( ) at no charge once it is completed. The test scenarios will be utilized by the National Pilot Program early mover/early adopter organizations and participants. An ICD-10 testing plan is currently being developed and will be announced soon. In an effort to better support and assist the healthcare community, CMS/NGS and the HIMSS/WEDI will be collaborating and partnering on the ICD-10 pilot. Standardizing the testing process and providing a coordinated approach for industry will enhance the efficiency and help reduce the cost of “trial and error” for this phase of ICD-10 implementation. Information on how to participate in the pilot will be provided during the webinar. There are several types of testing scenarios and checklists that will be discussed during the virtual event, including those for providers, clearinghouses, payers and vendors. For each session, there will be a WEDI member on the panel, supporting the CMS team, to share their process results for testing from a payer, provider, clearinghouse, and vendor perspective. We encourage you to bring your implementers and their questions to this very important learning event. Following each session, we will have Q&A to encourage participation. This virtual event will be recorded and available to everyone following the event.
