Extensions for ONC and CMS Proposed Rule Comment Periods with Release of Draft TEFCA and FAQs on Patients Right of Access now extended to June 3rd

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced it is extending the public comment period by 30 days for two proposed regulations aimed at promoting the interoperability of health information technology (health IT) and enabling patients to electronically access their health information. The new deadline for the submission of comments –June 3, 2019 – will allow additional time for the public to review the proposed regulations.

  • The WHO Launch of ICD-11 Webinar

    In May of 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) is scheduled to vote on adoption of ICD-11, replacing ICD-10. 

    ICD-11 will be a major change from ICD-10, with a number of improvements and enhancements including new chapters, restructured chapters and a new overall structure intended to make it more digital-friendly. These changes may present opportunities and challenges in the implementation of ICD-11 standards development organizations and health information technology developers. This session will provide information on some of the major changes between ICD-10 and ICD-11 and identify some areas that may require further exploration to determine what changes may be necessary to accommodate ICD-11 as a replacement for ICD-10-CM.

The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI), the nonprofit organization tasked with advising the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on health IT and health information exchange, recently announced new 2019 board leadership: Jay Eisenstock as chair and Nancy Spector as chair-elect.

In their roles, Eisenstock and Spector will help to drive industry efforts in advancing the use of health IT.
