WEDI 2012 Awards Program Request for Nominations

WEDI is seeking nominations for our 2012 WEDI Awards Program. This program will identify and recognize individuals and organizations in the healthcare industry whose achievements have contributed significantly to the advancement of WEDI’s mission.

Individuals or organizations in the healthcare industry may nominate candidates for the WEDI Awards Program. A nomination should be accompanied by a statement in support of the nomination that explains how the nominee has contributed to the specific Award category criteria.   Candidates who have been nominated will be screened by a cross-discipline jury drawn from the WEDI membership, which shall make its recommendations to the WEDI Board of Directors for final selection of award winners.

On October 23, 2012, WEDI will recognize award recipients at its Annual Member Meeting in Reston, VA during the WEDI 2012 Fall Conference. We request your assistance in identifying candidates for consideration. A brief description of the criteria for each award category follows:

“Leadership in Technology Award”

Recognizes an individual’s or organization’s contribution to the advancement of EDI and eCommerce technology in healthcare.

“WEDI Corporate Leadership Award”

Recognizes the WEDI Member organization that displays the highest level of commitment to and corporate involvement in the work and activities of WEDI each year.

“WEDI Distinguished Service Award”

Recognizes individuals who have provided significant leadership to the fulfillment of the mission, objectives, programs and overall volunteer activities of WEDI and/or WEDI SNIP through participation in committees, workgroups, PAGs, Board of Directors, etc.

“WEDI Award of Merit”

Recognizes individuals who have contributed in a meaningful way to the success of WEDI and/or WEDI SNIP programs and activities through their volunteer commitment and talents.

The Andrew H. Melczer Leadership in Volunteerism Award

In February 2005, WEDI, and the health care industry lost an honorable and loyal volunteer and leader. Andy Melczer committed his career to healthcare, but he devoted his life to helping, teaching, and sharing with others.

WEDI would like to recognize an individual who has provided exemplary service by giving his/her time to the association or industry activities on a national basis. The award aims to recognize the person whose business philosophy is to make the world a better place by sharing one’s time and talents.

This award is in memory of Andrew H. Melczer who exemplified these characteristics through his volunteerism with WEDI. Previous recipients of the award include in 2005, Walter Suarez, MD, of the Institute for HIPAA/HIT Education and Research; in 2006, Donald Bechtel of Siemens/HDX; in 2007, Sue Miller of HealthTransactions.com; in 2008, Jean Narcisi of the American Dental Association; in 2009, Laurie Darst of the Mayo Clinic; in 2010, James Daley of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, and in 2011, Nancy Spector of the American Medical Association.

WEDI Louis Sullivan Award

This award is named in honor of former HHS Secretary, Louis Sullivan who in 1991 was instrumental in the creation of WEDI and initiating the healthcare industry’s ongoing collective commitment to improving the quality, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of personal healthcare through the development and implementation of standards for administrative simplification. The award was first presented to Dr. Sullivan in 2001 and “recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves through their leadership vision and achievements in advancing the overall quality and efficiency of healthcare.”

Individuals or organizations in the healthcare industry may nominate candidates for the 2012 Louis Sullivan Award. A nomination should be accompanied by a statement in support of the nomination that explains how the nominee has contributed to the Award criteria. (above). Candidates who have been nominated will be screened by a cross-discipline jury drawn from the WEDI membership, which shall make its recommendations to the WEDI Board of Directors for final selection of the award winner.

To Nominate an Individual or Organization as a Candidate for the WEDI Awards Program, please complete the attached form and submit to WEDI no later than Friday, September 7, 2012.
