WEDI Launches Interoperability Testing Directory
Free Resource for Organizations to Identify Testing Partners
WASHINGTON, DC, April 30, 2026 — The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) launched a testing directory for organizations to find testing partners for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Advancing Interoperability and Improving Prior Authorization Final Rule (CMS-0057-F). WEDI has developed this resource to assist industry stakeholders meet the January 1, 2027, compliance deadline. WEDI is encouraging all organizations impacted by the final rule to include their information in the testing directory. There is no cost to list or access directory information.
CMS-0057-F mandates the use of Patient Access, Provider Access, Payer-to-Payer, and Prior Authorization Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Use of the APIs will increase access to data by patients and improve data sharing for prior authorization requests and responses. Starting January 1, 2027, these data exchange methodologies will deliver much-needed reduction in overall payer, provider, and patient burden.
The purpose of the WEDI testing directory is to provide a directory of organizations -- payers, providers, and vendors – that are interested and ready to test with other organizations. The directory is a platform for organizations to seek those partnerships for testing. Organizations that want to test can complete a simple questionnaire, including name, contact details, specific APIs and versions available for testing, dates available for testing, and a link to organization’s website for additional information. Organizations looking for a testing partner can review the information in the directory and contact those organizations with which they wish to test. Information in the directory will come from submissions and updates from the organization.
“It is critical that organizations test with their partners to ensure readiness to meet the CMS-0057-F API requirements by January 1, 2027,” said Robert Tennant, WEDI Executive Director. “Successful testing will demonstrate to payers, providers, vendors—and most importantly, patients—the value of these APIs and the real-time data exchange they enable.”
Tennant added, “WEDI is here to support the industry through our testing directory, education, and other resources to help meet this critical compliance challenge. We are pleased to serve as a facilitator to connect stakeholders and accelerate interoperability.”
