WEDI Holds MPA on X12 Version 008060. WEDI held a Member Position Advisory (MPA) event to solicit member perspectives and recommendations on the potential adoption of the X12 Version 008060 HIPAA Administrative Transactions. The MPA was in response to WEDI being invited to present at a July 1 (1-4 pm ET) Listening Session conducted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Issues raised during the MPA included Version 6020 vs. 8060 for claims attachments, prioritization of transaction standards for potential advancement, potential impact of advancing to version 8060 on reducing manual processes, potential cost, vendor readiness, operating rules, and others. Thanks to the facilitators and attendees for sharing their expertise and perspectives. CMS will use the feedback from the Listening Session to inform future HIPAA Administrative Simplification rulemaking. HHS Holding Webinar on AI in Clinical Care RFI Findings. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is holding a webinar on June 12 to share key takeaways and emerging themes from responses to the Department’s request for information (RFI) on accelerating the adoption and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical care. ONC to Hold June 9 Webinar on Inferno API Testing. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is holding a webinar on June 9 on the Introduction to Inferno API Testing. During this session, ONC will provide an introduction of the Inferno testing framework including an overview of Inferno testing capabilities, available program resources, and a demonstration of ONC’s Inferno on HealthIT.gov. ONC Hosting July 1 Health IT Developer Roundtable. ONC is hosting its next ONC Health IT Certification Program Developer Roundtable on July 1. These public meetings are open to all health information technology (IT) developers, regardless of their participation in the ONC Health IT Certification Program. During these meetings, ONC leads discussions tailored for the health IT developer community on topics such as Certification Program updates, upcoming certification deadlines, and developer requirements. CISA Announces Revised CIRCIA Town Hall Meeting Schedule. The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) announced a revised schedule of town hall meetings for the Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act of 2022 (CIRCIA) rulemaking. CISA is hosting these town halls to allow external stakeholders a limited additional opportunity to provide input on refining the scope and burden of the CIRCIA proposed rule that was published in Federal Register on April 4, 2024. These town hall meetings replace the ones previously scheduled for March and April 2026 but were canceled. Registration is required to attend and must be completed before 5:00 p.m. ET two business days before the meeting. The 4-hour meetings include General Session 1 - Monday, June 15, 2026, at 11:30a.m. ET; Critical Infrastructure Sectors Grouping A - Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 11:30a.m. ET, which includes the health care and public health sector; and General Session 2 - Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:30a.m. ET. The town hall meetings will be recorded and transcribed.
House E&C Subcommittee Conducts Hearing on Data Privacy and Security. The House of Representatives Energy and Commerce (E&C) Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade held a hearing on June 3 on establishing comprehensive federal privacy and security data legislation. The hearing included discussion on H.R. 8413, the ‘‘Securing and Establishing Consumer Uniform Rights and Enforcement over Data Act’’ (SECURE Act), introduced by Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (R-PA), leader of the Energy and Commerce Data Privacy Working Group. The SECURE Data Act would establish a national privacy and data security standard to protect personal data and establish new rights for consumers and obligations for companies that would be enforced by the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general.
House Members Call on FBI to Address Cybersecurity Concerns. Members of House of Representatives sent a letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director, Kash Patel, calling on him to address the growing and increasingly sophisticated cybersecurity threats targeting critical health care infrastructure. The letter, signed by 11 House Republicans, points out that cyberattacks against hospital systems and health care providers have evolved from isolated incidents into a persistent and escalating national security concern and the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center has consistently identified health care as one of the sectors most heavily targeted by ransomware attacks. The Members called on the FBI to continue collaboration with health care stakeholders, including through public-private partnerships, streamlined reporting mechanisms, and clear guidance that enables hospitals to participate effectively in information-sharing initiatives without undue burden.
TEFCA™ RCE Publishes Draft SOP for Review. The Sequoia Project, the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement™ (TEFCA™) Recognized Coordinating Entity® (RCE®), along with ONC published the Draft Restricted Participation Status Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) v1.0 on the TEFCA Topics in Change Management webpage for review. This SOP addresses the need for all Qualified Health Information Networks (QHINs) to know which Participants or Subparticipants have been suspended or terminated from TEFCA Exchange under certain circumstances and describes the circumstances and the procedure that QHINs will use to share this information with each other. Feedback on the draft SOP is due on June 15.
